Day 3 Reflections
Today was almost all new material for me. I was very glad to see the training covering open source material. I feel that we probably need to spend time working on how to decide which open source materials are responsibly available (ie. looking at forums to see reviews and recommendations). The afternoon was spent doing a series of useful exercises with previously examined video-making technology but adding in a screenshot tool. I feel that today was the beginning of synthesizing the material we've covered with big ideas about how to convey our knowledge to teachers. Today was pretty much A+

Day 2 Reflections
[Day 2] was the logical extension of [Day 1]. After some exploration of Gmail's numerous useful functions we worked with google doc's. I liked the group's ability to all share the document and had never seen how dys/functional that could be. I liked how the spreadsheet was accessible and easily useful but I really didn't get whoever was randomly cutting and pasting information and deleting rows. All in all, the morning was pretty informative. The afternoon wasn't as informative, I feel. The movie-making teams were too large to be properly functional as it fell to one or two people to do the computing work and so the team was unbalanced because the whole group wasn't working together cogently. The end product for each team has been very good but I think the next time this exercise is run it should be with a team of 2 or 3 done over two days so everyone's end product is more indicative of their fuller contribution to the final product.

Day 1 Reflections
Today was a return to form. After months of using the internet for play and not work, it was a return to the (glory?) days of college. I don't think I learned anything today but I certainly did start getting ideas about how to use the technologies I already know in education settings. Today was fun and I'm pretty sure I met people who will be both peer and mentor.

About Me+ My Expectations
My name is Luke Garcia and I'm a recent graduate from Loyola University. This year has marked my first Asian travel. I worked with children's authors and teachers across the Japanese countryside. Before graduating college I worked for the Louisiana Office of Public Health in gay and transgender health. Before the OPH I worked for Community Coffee as an aggressive barista. I finished college in two and a half years and intend to start graduate or law school in either the coming spring or next fall. I am a singer and a composer. I write (alot) and spend most of my time reading. It is pretty exciting to be me.
I hope this job will teach me new technical skills. I want to work in a high school and would like to start a speech team. I intend to put my media skills to use and (if I decide I want a teaching degree) start researching how to better integrate online capabilities with physical media in primary and secondary school settings.
