Day 2 Reflections
[Day 2] was the logical extension of [Day 1]. After some exploration of Gmail's numerous useful functions we worked with google doc's. I liked the group's ability to all share the document and had never seen how dys/functional that could be. I liked how the spreadsheet was accessible and easily useful but I really didn't get whoever was randomly cutting and pasting information and deleting rows. All in all, the morning was pretty informative. The afternoon wasn't as informative, I feel. The movie-making teams were too large to be properly functional as it fell to one or two people to do the computing work and so the team was unbalanced because the whole group wasn't working together cogently. The end product for each team has been very good but I think the next time this exercise is run it should be with a team of 2 or 3 done over two days so everyone's end product is more indicative of their fuller contribution to the final product.

I can't tell you how much I agree with you about the movie-making teams. Although there were some BRILLIANT people on my team (I sincerely mean that), it did seem to be somewhat unbalanced. It is important that we all be able to understand the procedures. Although we did give the progect one excellent effort, we had our share of complications. Most importantly, these "complications" are sure to resurface in the work environment.
ReplyDeletePlease excuse the typo that I just noticed.. project is spelled incorrectly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with todays extension on our daily training. I agree there are a lot of strengths in our group that in time we can learn from each other, to help strengthen what weaknesses we have at the moment. I think that is what makes this group so great is how much we can learn from one another.
ReplyDeleteAlso another point of this post is to let you know I added you, and to also say hello.

Sup, Mary Kay? Good work making the commentary for our project. We seem to work pretty well together, maybe we'll end up in the same group at some point in the future. Did you remember to palm slap your Carmex on your face today? I'm assuming you did, since there's no other way to start a day!
ReplyDeleteLuke,
ReplyDeleteI can understand some of your complaints with the Movie Maker Project; however, I feel like it is important to realize that you will not always be working under ideal conditions. At time, you may have more team members than you know what to do with. You may have less time than you'd like to complete a task, and you may have to figure out how to use everyone's strengths with limited resources. The purpose behind the Movie Maker project is not to give you ideal working conditions and an unlimited amount of time and watch you succeed. I have no doubt that a project like this would produce amazing results. I'm more interested in stacking the cards against you and seeing how you overcome the obstacles through teamwork, good communication, and creativity.
I hope you appreciated the project at least a little now that it's over. We definitely enjoyed watching the finished product.
